Three Little Cakes

Once upon a time, there were three little cakes - a carrot cake, an apricot yoghurt-topped flapjack and a raspberry and banana muffin.

These cakes were quite happy in their homes - the cake tin, the display counter in a university restaurant, and the trendy bohemian coffee shop full of girls wearing nice boots.

But it was a horrible rainy day, and ladies everywhere were feeling a bit down because they couldn't wear floaty skirts and sandals, and their hair went all frizzy in the damp.

So one lady - who has always had a lot of loves for little cakeys - decided that the only way to cheer herself up was by maybe having a cake. So she did. For breakfast.

She felt better instantly, as she tasted the lovely cream cheese icing of the carrot cake melting in her mouth. "Oh, how decadent," she thought, "Dining on cake at this hour."

But later in the day, the rain continued. Her colleague had a hangover and she wanted to cheer him up. So she took him to the campus coffee shop for a nice cuppa and a flapjack. Oh, the delight as she tasted that first syrup-coated oat cluster! She had never felt this happy before.

Later that evening, it was dark and cold. The rain was still falling. She went to the aforementioned boho coffee house, where she was faced with many cakey delights of the chocolate, coffee, banana and vanilla varieties. In a glass jar on the counter, was a very lonely looking muffin. So she ate that too.

The next day, she felt very guilty indeed and swore never to eat cake again. Well, not until the weekend at least!

The poor cakes will be sad if you leave them alone.
